Produced in 2007 this is government guidance for England and Wales on the design of residential streets and the creation of sustainable, inclusive public spaces. It provides guidance and advice on the way in which street design can create better, more distinctive places. Manual for Streets is aimed at a wide range of organisations representing people who use, build, design, plan and manage streets. This includes utilities, emergency services, developers, local authorities and the design professions. Whilst the manual focuses on lightly-trafficked residential streets many of the principles are applicable to other types of street such as high streets and rural lanes however the trunk road network is covered by a separate guide Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.
